A couple of week’s ago, we shared a behind the scenes look at one of our owners, Mark’s, homes and how he uses our favourite products in his space. This week, we’re back with Part II, and we’re sharing the details on everything from his stylish light fixtures to complete home automation system!
Legrand’s Intuity Home Automation system
Mark installed Legrand’s Intuity Home Automation system into his home for seamless home automation, and let me tell you, this thing does everything! It allows you to control your heating, lighting, audio, shading, home security, video doorbell, locks, and so much more with the touch of a finger. I’m personally not the most tech savvy person, so I was a little wary of it at first, but it seriously couldn’t be easier to use.
The system not only controls Legrand’s own products but is compatible with third party products from other industry leaders. It’s also compatible with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa- we covered the compatibility with Legrand’s Wi-Fi lighting system here, but it’s compatible with their motorized shading as well.
The Wi-Fi Lighting Remote Control is the perfect compliment to the Intuity System. Mark stationed his right next to the Intuity interface, allowing for even easier control of his lighting. The remote allows you to control up to four lighting scenes.
Scenes can vary from a morning setting, which raised your blinds and sets the perfect light levels, to an entertainment scene, which closes all the blinds, turns on your favourite music, and dims the lights.
Mark uses QMotion’s Advanced Shading System throughout his home for the convenience, style, and energy savings that they provide. The motorized shading is connected to his Intuity system and Amazon Alexa, so he can control his shades from anywhere in the home or away!
They can also be pre-programmed and operate on a timer. The programming functionality is where these blinds really shine (pun intended). Mark no longer uses an alarm clock thanks to a slow raising of his bedroom blinds in the morning, letting the natural circadian light cycle wake him. At night, similar programming tracks the sun and automatically lowers the blinds at dusk.
We talked a bit about the energy saving benefit’s of QMotion’s mortised shading here. These award winning window fashions are the perfect compliment to any smart home, and they’re also great for offices and commercial spaces.
To choose the finishings for his space, Mark worked with local interior decorator Charlotte Skiba, of Charlotte Interiors, to select from our residential lighting lines. They decided to go with Quoizel’s Emery Dinette Chandelier over the dining room table, and the Emery Dinette Pendants over the island. They are they perfect choice to compliment the open and bright look of his space.
We had so much fun putting together this Home Tour, and we hope it helped give you some ideas on how our products can be used in and improve your space. In case you missed it, check out Part I here, and stay tuned for Part III coming soon!

The video doorbell isn’t just about protecting your home- it’s also about protecting those inside your home. With the system’s wireless capabilities, you can check that your kids make it home safe from school while you’re still at the office.
The system’s motion detection also sends an alert as someone approaches the door, so you can ensure your family is protected from intruders even if you aren’t home.
See and speak to visitors
The camera provides a view of an entire 180 degree view of your entry way, and the night vision camera ensures visibility in low light conditions. You can also speak to your visitors via a two-way audio.
And remember- thanks to the app, you don’t have to be home to do this! Make sure your packages get delivered safely by communicating with the mailman even if you’re not home.
It’s not just about safety
Yes, the NuTone Knock is one of the best measures you can take in protecting your home, but it’s also just really convenient! As we mentioned, you can make sure your mail and packages are always delivered, you can get a heads up on who is visiting, and you didn’t hear this from us, but it’s also a great way to …ahem… avoid unwanted visits from those pesky neighbors of yours…

As we’re sure you can probably tell, we’re pretty obsessed with the products we carry! That’s because we partner with the best available on the market and because we love what we rep, we deck our own homes our with our products.
In today’s post, we’re taking you on a home tour of one of our owners, Mark’s, home and showing you exactly what he has chosen for his space.
adorne’s sofTap Dimmer, Switches and Wall Plate
Mark installed adorne’s sofTap Dimmer, Switches and Wall Plates into his main living area to give him maximum control of his lighting throughout his kitchen, dining area, and living room. The sofTap switch responds to the touch of a finger, and the dimmers operate both with the touch of a finger and with a sleek paddle.
The fixtures are finished with a 4-Gang Wall plate in the top photo and the 3-Gang Wall Plate in the second photo. These plates add a much sleeker, more contemporary look than the traditional wall plates.
Mark created a convenient charging station in his kitchen with adorne’s USB outlet. What we really love about these outlets is that you can customize your own by choosing a combination of USB and plug outlets. Pair a USB charging outlet with a standard outlet for maximum convenience and flexibility! And don’t forget to customize the look with the perfect 1-Gang Wall Plate, available in a variety of colours and styles.
For convenient control of his home audio system, Mark uses the intuitive On-Q Digital Audio app from Legrand. With the touch of a finger, you can control the audio (including your personal music and an expansive variety of Internet radio) in any room in your home or space. Perfect for entertaining or just for your own personal use!
Audio isn’t the only thing in Mark’s home that he can control through his phone. Legrand’s RF Lighting Control app lets him control all of his lighting anywhere that he was a wifi connection! This can mean dimming the lights from the comfort of his couch, or controlling his lights from outside the home. This system couldn’t be easier to set up, connects to all Legrand switches, dimmers, and outlets, and can be paired with Amazon Alexa and Google Home. Read more about the system here.
Mark installed the adorned Accent Light, 2-Gang at the top of the stairs going down to the basement. The Accent Light is built into the 2-Gang wall plate and offers the perfect amount of light to safely get you down the basement stairs without the need for an overhead light. It’s also a great option to use as a night light for kids or in any space where you want subtle lighting without an overhead light.
Here, Mark has paired the Accent Light 2-Gang with two adore sofTap Light Switches. The Accent Light is also available in 1, 3, and 4-Gang.
Today’s consumers are more eco-conscious then ever, and we love seeing the shift towards more environmentally friendly products being available on the market. In today’s post, we’re bringing you five simple ways to incorporate eco-friendly lighting and heating options into your space.
1. LED Fixtures
It’s no secret that LED bulbs are the most eco-friendly and clean ways to light your space. LED has come so far that last year production LED lights became more efficient than our own sun at producing light! Besides the reduction in energy consumption, the LED source is also mercury free, unlike its florescent predecessor, making it the most eco-friendly light source.
Luckily, the lighting industry has kept up with these energy efficient technologies and there are lots of great LED fixtures available on the market now that were not even an option with previous technology.
What we recommend: The light fixtures from Sonneman – A Way of Light. Robert Sonneman was the Father of Cometemportary Lighting, and his pieces are so impactful they’re featured in the Museum of Modern Art in NYC. Robert is still involved with every design and has taken full advantage of LED’s flexibly and size. They are on a level of their own and bring a look of class and sophistication to any space. They offer a wide variety of LED fixtures, which will boost your energy efficient and elevate your décor.
2. Lighting Control
How many times have you forgotten to turn off the lights when you head out? If you’re like most of us, it’s almost a daily occurrence! This may seem trivial, but all of this extra light can really add up, especially if it’s in a larger space like an office.
To save on energy, we recommend installing lighting control. These systems are super easy to set up and allow you to control your lighting from anywhere using an app on your phone. You’ll never waste energy, or money, from leaving your lights on again.
What we recommend: At the simplest level, Legrand’s adorne and radiant collections offer basic Occupancy and Vacancy Sensors. They go in place of a tradional switch and offer basic sensing of when someone is in the space and are perfect for all spaces, particularly kids’ rooms, laundry rooms and bathrooms.
For that next level technology we are all clamoring for, we recommend the Wi-fi lighting systems from the same collections. They’re stylish, user friendly, app based, and can be connected to your Amazon Alexa and Google Home.
Sometimes the best solutions are also the simplest. Did you know that just by properly shading your windows, you can save money and energy on heating/cooling?
Proper shading works all year round by keeping out the heat in the summer (and saving you big on AC!) and keeping the cold out in the winter (your heating bill will thank you!).
What we recommend: Legrand’s QMotion motorized shades are both stylish and practical. You can use them manually, on a timer, or through their iPhone and Android apps. Having partnered with Samsung, they also be paired with your favorite Smart Home hub like Wink and of course can be connected to your Amazon Alexa and Google Home.
4. Smart Heat Control
Just like lighting control, you can also control the heat in your space using smart technology to increase energy efficiency and save you major $$.
Smart heat control saves on energy in three ways: first, you can ensure that you’re only using heat when you actually need it. Second, it gives you the option of zone heating, which means you can choose which rooms you want to heat, unlike traditional heating, which heats your entire space.
Last is the precision of the thermostats themselves. Unlike traditional models, Smart Thermostats never overshoot or undershoot their desired temperature, and this alone can offer up to a 33% reduction in energy usage.
What we recommend: The CONNEX system from Dimplex. It offers total heating flexibility and is the perfect fit for both commercial and residential spaces. You’ll notice an energy savings of 29-33% with their electric smart fan heaters, baseboards, convection heaters and garage heaters as well as an overall savings, thanks to the system’s high temperature sensitivity and programming options.
You can learn more about Dimplex’s CONNEX system here!
5. Electric Fireplaces (vs. gas or traditional)
Like most electric heat sources, electric fireplaces are 100% efficient. For every watt of power in, they produce the equivalent out as heat. Since they are not vented outdoors like gas and wood, 100% of the heat they produce stays inside the home. While output varies based on the conditions, modern gas and wood fireplaces can reach as low as 30% energy efficiency, and generally range between 30-80%. The means potentially only 30% of the heat produced is warming your home.
Unlike traditional and gas options, electric fireplaces emit no carbon monoxide, particulates, or emissions. Also, with the growth of wind and solar you could essentially heat your space and have all the benefits of a fireplace through 100% renewable energy!
What we recommend: The electric fireplaces from Dimplex are among the best on the market and are available in a variety of styles and sizes. They add a great ambiance to any room, and installation is as simple as plugging it into an outlet!

There are few things in life as luxurious as stepping out of your shower to a gently warmed towel. It seriously doesn’t get much better than that! While this sounds like the kind of treatment you only get to enjoy at high end hotels and spas, you can actually make this a daily experience by installing a towel warmer from Convectair in your bathroom. They’ll heat not only your towels but your entire bathroom!
Why choose a Convectair towel warmer?
1. Warm towels are just amazing.
Okay, we’ll repeat the obvious: getting out of the shower to a warm towel is just awesome. It’s the perfect way to start or end your day.
2. It’s more than just a towel warmer
Convector’s towel warmers don’t just heat your towels- they heat your whole bathroom. There’s nothing worse than getting out of a hot shower and into a freezing bathroom, and you can avoid this by preheating your space while you shower.
3. They’re safe to operate
Convectair’s towel warmers are designed with total safety in mind. They feature a splash proof construction and thermal protection in case of overheating, and the heating elements are inaccessible to children’s fingers. Convectair guarantees the highest quality and performance of their heaters, all of which are made in their factories in France..
Your Convectair towel warmer is backed by a 2 year warranty on all manufacturing defects and a 5 year warranty on heating elements.
Convectair offers five different towel warmers, so you can choose the one that fits your budget and needs.
The Opera B diffuses radiant heat over its honeycombed surface, warming both your towels and the room.
Convectair’s second most powerful towel warmer mixes function with style. Its sleek design will look fantastic in your space. The Diva can be used to heat your towels and your room together or separately.
The Impresario 1200 features a shock resistant glass front panel, available in a variety of colours. Like the Diva, it can be used to heat your towels and your room together or separately.
The Impresario 1600 has all of the features of the 1200 but rather than glass, it’s carved from lava rock. This is the ultimate in style and luxury when it comes to towel warmers and is unique to the market. This model is only available in lava white.
Few things amp up the ambiance of a room quite like a fireplace. Whether you’re outfitting a living room, building lobby, or any space in between, they can all benefit from the warmth and glow that fireplaces offer. In today’s post, we’re outlining the benefits of choosing an electric fireplace over traditional and gas options.
While traditional fireplaces are great, they often require a lot of maintenance and aren’t suitable for many locations. They can also wreak havoc on our health and on the environment. Combustible sources contain toxic carbon monoxide, smog-causing nitrogen oxides, soot, fine particles, and a range of other chemicals and gases that can cause or worsen serious health problems, particularly among children, pregnant women, and people with breathing difficulties.
Gas fireplaces are another option, but they are generally expensive to run (propane isn’t cheap!), and you don’t get the snap, pops, and crackles of a real fire (essentials in our opinion!).
Enter the electric fireplace, specifically Dimplex electric fireplaces. Dimplex products are like the Cadillac of electric fireplaces, and they have all of the pros of traditional and gas fireplaces without the cons.
Let’s take a look at the benefits of a Dimplex electric fireplace.
Dimplex electric fireplaces use cutting edge technology to offer you the most realistic flame- you’ll swear you have a real fire going! Both the look and sound simulate a real fire, so you can enjoy the true experience of a fireplace.
Between traditional, gas, and electric, electric fireplaces are the easiest to install. You don’t need a chimney or a gas line- they’re just like any electrical appliance that you can plug in anywhere! If you can “install” a toaster, you can install an electric fireplace.
An electric fireplace can save you money on your heating bill and is generally much cheaper to run than a gas fireplace. Not only are you getting the look and feel of a real fireplace, but you’re also saving money! They are also generally cheaper to purchase and install than gas fireplaces.
With an electric fireplace, you control the flame and the heat separately- if you want to really warm up a room you can turn both the flame and the heat on; if you don’t need the heat, simply enjoy the flame on its own.
Unlike traditional and gas options, electric fireplaces emit no carbon monozide, particulates, or emissions. Also, with the growth of wind and solar you could essentially heat your space and have all the benefits of a fireplace through 100% renewable energy!
The glass front of an electrical fireplace stays cool to the touch, giving you complete peace of mind. It’s a great option if you have kids or pets running around! All of the ambiance, none of the worry.
Which Dimplex electric fireplace is right for your space?
If you already have a mantel or want the look of a traditional fireplace, an electric firebox is the option for you. They can be fitted right into your existing mantel, or you can pair them with a Dimplex BuiltRite Mantel to instantly add the look and feel of a real fireplace into your room without any hassle. They come in a variety of sizes, so you can choose the one that’s right for your space.
Wall Mount Electric Fireplace
For a sleeker, more modern look, consider a wall mount electric fireplace. Available in a variety of sizes and lengths, they can be outfitted right onto the wall and offer the perfect blend of modern and warmth. All you need is a bracket and an outlet.
The bottom line: a Dimplex electric fireplace is a cost efficient and easy way to dramatically enhance the ambiance of your space.

Controlling your home lighting has never been easier: with the Wi-Fi lighting series from Legrand’s adorneand radiant collection’s, you’ll not only improve the security and energy efficiency of your space but you’ll also have complete control of your lighting, both at home and remotely.
Let’s start with the basics: what is Wi-Fi Lighting?
Wi-Fi lighting is a lighting system that allows you to control your light switches, dimmers, and outlets both manually and via your smartphone and tablet. This means you can control your lights anywhere you have a internet connection!
What are the benefits of Wi-Fi lighting?
Great question! As we mentioned above, Wi-Fi Lighting puts you in complete control of your lighting both from your home and remotely. You’ll improve security by being able to turn your lights on and off while you’re away.; you’ll reduce your energy bill and improve energy efficiency because you’ll ensure your lights are only on when you need them; and you can set the mood and create the perfect ambiance with Wi-Fi lighting control.
Even better? It connects with your Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant
Using an app is great. What’s even better is controlling your lights with voice command. Legrand’s Wi-Fi Lighting System is compatible with your smart home system making lighting your space effortless (and pretty fun!). Why reach for a light switch when you can simply ask your home system to do it for you! Of course, this is optional, and you can still enjoy Wi-Fi control using only your Legrand Lighting Control app.
Ready to get started? Here’s what you’ll need:
1. The Hub from Legrand, this is the brain of the system
2. The adorne or radiant collections’ Wi-Fi Ready switches, dimmers, and/or outlets

Step 1: Choose your devices. You can choose from the adorne and radiant collections’ Wi-Fi Light switches, dimmers, and outlets. These switches are wired exactaly like a tradional switch or dimmer. There’s no special wiring need, and it and can be done by your electrician or any DIY’er with a basic confort level for installing a switch.
Step 2: Plug in The Hub. To connect your devices, all you need to do is plug in The Hub to your wireless network and pair with your adorne Wi-Fi Ready products. This takes less than 30 minutes and couldn’t be simpler. You don’t need a computer or any special software- it can all be done through the app and is as easy as turning a light on then assigning it a name.

This week, we’re so excited to have Charlotte Skiba of Charlotte Interiors on the blog! Charlotte is a Halifax based interior decorator and home stager, and she’s here to share the top lighting trends for 2018.
With a new year comes new design trends and every year something seems to change at least slightly from the year before. Old trends become new again, current trends evolve, and completely new trends emerge. This holds true through fashion and design and especially lighting. So instead of leaving it up to you to figure out, I’ve compiled a list of the latest lighting trends for 2018.
Trend: Soft Gold
Gold has definitely been making a huge comeback, but this time it’s coming back in a softer hue than the old brassy gold that was popular in the 90s. This finish provides some warmth to your design and can be paired with other metals, such as nickel and aged brass (both warmer metals). The Karin wall sconce from Mitzi by Hudson Valley is perfect for bathroom vanity lighting. Pair two of these with a black or nickel round mirror and a soft gold faucet to create a beautiful bathroom.
Trend: Midcentury Modern
Midcentury Modern is having a big moment in design and lighting is no exception. Clean lines and round shades are very popular this year. The Ashleigh light from Mitzi by Hudson Valley is the perfect addition to any midcentury modern living room.
Trend: Big Fixtures
Large fixtures that make a statement are very popular right now. I’m seeing most of these larger fixtures showing up as kitchen island pendants and they really anchor the space. Typically, on a large island you would see three medium size pendants, but what we’re seeing now is that number changing to two and those pendants being fairly significant in size, almost like something you would see over a dining room table. The Silhouette pendant by Troy Lighting comes in at a width of 27.75” and would make a perfect statement for your kitchen island lighting.
Trend: Exposed Bulbs
Exposed bulbs have gained some popularity over the last few years and are still holding steading in lighting design. Now with the multitude of different bulbs, including different shaped Edison bulbs it makes it easier to get a great exposed bulb design. The Tara wall scones from Mitzi by Hudson Valley gives a candlestick effect and would be perfect to place on either side of a painting or a mirror above a fireplace.
Trend: Refined Rustic
The farmhouse/rustic look has been popular for a few years now and I’m noticing the trend shift a little more towards a more refined rustic look. What I mean by refined is more clean lines. I’m still seeing lots of aged bronze and French iron, and matte black is becoming a popular finish, which fits in nicely with the refined rustic look. The Arcadia chandelier from Troy Lighting is perfect for over a dining table and pairs nicely with wood tones, leather and shiplap for a perfect refined rustic design.
The number one rule for setting the mood? Good lighting! Whether you’re looking for the perfect romantic lighting or wanting to conserve energy and have lighting flexibility in your space, dimmer switches are the way to go.
And if you thought using a dimmer still meant a sliding switch, think again! The game has changed, and in addition to traditional dimmers, you can now experience motion sensing dimmers, glass touch dimmers, app based wifi control, and so much more.
We love the dimmer options available in Legrand’s adorne and radiant collections. They’re not only stylish and customizable, but they have options for all of your dimming wants and needs.
Tru Universal Dimmer Switch
The game changer! The recipient of Lighting of Tomorrow’s lighting control award, the Tru Universal Dimmer Switch will automatically adapt to any load or combination of loads attached to them, including Incandescent/Halogen, Magnetic Low Voltage, Electronic Low Voltage (ELV) in Forward or Reverse Phase, CFL/LED bulbs, etc.
The Tru-Universal also eliminates flicker, early dropout, or “pop-on” deficiencies, which can plague other non-adaptive dimmers. The best part is you don’t have to worry about any technical details- simply pair it with any fixture, power it on, and you’re done.
Motion Sensor Dimmer Switches
Motion Sensor Dimmers are a great way to conserve energy and keep your electrical bill down! The lights automatically turn off when you leave the room and can also be controlled with a switch.
Standard Dimmer Switches
The Standard Dimmer Switches offer customizable options for colour, wattage, and bulb type. Adjust your lighting with toggles, paddle dimmers, touch dimmer (which functions like a touch screen), or sofTap (which responds to the touch of your finger tips).
The RF Lighting Control dimmers integrate with the Legrand’s Intuity Home automation system for total control of lights, security, audio, and more. This is your one stop shop for ultimate home automation.
Wifi Ready Dimmer Switches
Take maximum control over your lighting with Wifi Ready Dimmer Switches. Lights can be adjusted using the dimmer or right from your smartphone or tablet! The system couldn’t be easier to set up, requires no additional or special wiring and integrates seamlessly with Amazon’s Alexa and the Google Home assistant.
Multi Location Dimmer Switch
Control up to 9 remote dimmers with the Multi Location Dimmer Switch. This is the perfect option for offices and large spaces. It also solves the problem of being able to dim a single load or light fixture from two locations. Traditionally when you have a 3-way dimming application only one of the two switches could dim.
